Veneers vs crowns abroad: price and what you're really getting
Abroad, veneers and crowns are often priced almost the same per tooth, so price alone won't tell you which one you're getting. The difference is how much natural tooth is removed.
Median price per tooth
| Country | Veneer (porcelain / E-max / zirconia) | Crown |
|---|---|---|
| Turkey | $268 | $268 |
| Poland | $342 | $398 |
| Hungary | $415 | $419 |
| Mexico | $450 | $450 |
| Thailand | $445 | $467 |
| Costa Rica | $442 | $470 |
| Colombia | $460 | $620 |
| United States | $1,765 | $1,399 |
| United Kingdom | $823 | $965 |
| Canada | — | $762 |
| Australia | — | $1,179 |
The difference that matters
- Veneers cover the front of the tooth.
- Crowns cover the whole tooth. The BBC reported that crowns can involve filing 60–70% of the tooth, and that crowns raise the risk of root canal treatment and extraction later (BBC).
Composite veneers
Composite (resin) veneers are a different, cheaper product, so we list them on the veneers page but leave them out of medians.
Questions to ask
- Who exactly will treat me, and what is their licence and registration number?
- What is the written treatment plan, tooth by tooth, including whether each tooth gets a veneer or a crown?
- Which material, lab and implant brand will you use?
- What is included: scans, X-rays, temporaries, extractions, grafts, sedation, hotel, transfers?
- How many trips and how many days per trip?
- What guarantee do you give, and who pays for flights if something needs fixing?
- What records (X-rays, scans, implant details) will I take home for my own dentist?
